Alternative media are very often run by individuals or collectives that have "an attitude". Be they anarchists, socialists, feminists, underground poets or independent journalist, they do have a clear idea why they publish outside the mainstream media. They often employ non-herarchical ways of production where decisions are to be made consensualy and power distributed evenly. Although in the area of prefigrative politics where the means are always much more important than the results, sometimes the routines of media production may take over. In the presentation, I would like to illustrate how DIY ideology and practice go (and at times do not go) together. Based on my research of czech anarchafeminist magazine Prima Cesta and on personal experience from zine Bloody Mary and other czech anarchist media, I would like to show potencial cores of power structures in the media production process. By the presentation, I also want to provoke a discussion about the topic and share ideas of how to avoid the emergence of unwanted power structures in the alternative media collectives.
