We will present the DVD project DIG ME OUT: Discourses on Popular Music, Gender and Ethniticy, edited by María José Belbel and Rosa Reitsamer. The DVD brings together musical, visual and theoretical contribution from a number of European countries, including Austria, ex-Yugoslavia, and Spain, with the aim to question the hegemonic order in popular music and popular culture within its socio-historical context. The contributors raise questions about sexuality, gender and "race" from their specific standpoints in society. DIG ME OUT is an ongoing project that would like to contribute to transgenerational and transcultural debates that include experiences and perspectives beyond the culturally dominant practices. The DVD project (partly in English, Spanish and Basque language) has been funded by the Art Centre Arteleku, San Sebastián, the Basque Country, Spain.
