In his novel Brave New World the British author and thinker Aldous Huxley wrote that one day ordinary citizens would write their own news stories and have their own newspapers. Nearly 70 years later this is happening since the world is witnessing a movement called 'citizen journalism'. This paper will examine how citizen journalism can help to combat Islamophobic attitudes prevalent in the mass media in the UK. This paper will also investigate when these Islamophobic biases began in the UK. This paper identifies a growing demand for the ordinary man in the street to be heard which has lead to the growth of alternative media or citizen journalism.
