(h)activism in free / open media (Michael Schweiger)
From Civilmedia
hacktopia is the title of this year's HAIP festival, taking place between 3rd and 11th of November in Ljubljana. hacktopia refers to hacktivism in the sense of activism and hacker's ethic (see The Hacker Ethic and the Spirit of the Information Age (foreword by Linus Torvalds, afterword by Manuel Castells, 2001)..
HAIP as a festival brings together lectures, performances and installations, that all deal with a broad and at same moment clear and sharp notion of open source as the source for free expression.
Radio FRO is with Time's Up and Monochrom one of 3 Austrian co-corganizers of HAIP. The coordinator is Kiberpipa, a Slovene Open Source initiative similar to servus.at and Ciant (CZ) is partner number 5.
The main goal is to transport the diversity of approaches of the HAIP contributors and to invite for the round 2 of the project, HAIP goes HYPE, that will cover whole 2009, and see it's start with some lectures, performances and installations in Linz. HAIP goes HYPE in Linz will be organized in cooperation with "Art meets Radical Openness" - the Linux Weeks organized by servus.at and LUGL - Linux User Group Linz.
